The Entrance Band released an album from Ecstatic Peace/Universal Records that is sheer genius in the most provocative sense. This psychedelic rock vibe is alluring and different from the everyday norm in psych rock. Blake plays his guitar wildly and purposefully in his solos, Paz is just a whirlwind powerhouse on her guitar, and Derek is wildly pounding, master of the drum set. Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore liked these guys so much he signed them to his own label, Ecstatic Peace.
The band have been playing together for four years but only became “The Entrance Band” this year. Consisting of Guy Blakeslee, Paz Lenchantin, and Derek James, this trio play off of each other beautifully. They look like true musicians up there on the stage, really feeling the music — lost in it. Oh and for the record, Paz Lenchantin is one seriously wicked guitar player and it’s a wonder I’ve never seen this chick live before.
And fans should be interested in knowing that, according to lead singer Guy Blakeslee, “We just finished touring all summer long.” He sighed. “Now we’re going back to California to play at a few random places, staying as close to home as possible..and we’re going all over middle America and the west coast.”
